Integrated Photonics Developer

Job description

Are you interested in developing photonic integrated circuits in Lithium niobate suitable for application in next generation photonic devices such as ultra-high-speed transceivers and fast tunable lasers? We have an open position for an Integrated Photonics Developer to conduct the develop of innovative Lithium niobate photonic integrated circuits (“PICs”). The position is focused on designing, prototyping and testing of PICs for various application.

Lithium niobate PICs

Lithium niobate is a well-known and versatile photonic material, has been influencing our daily life for decades: from enabling high-speed optical communications that form the backbone of the Internet to realizing RF filters used in our mobile phones. This half-century-old material is currently unleashing a revolution as a next generation PIC platform to replace or complement the current PIC platforms such as Silicon, Indium phosphide and Silicon nitrite.
Rapid Photonics has developed a technology for the fabrication of LN PICs that enables the development and production of LN PICS at an industrial scale. Based on this technology the company is developing several demonstrator PICs for various application.

Job responsibilities

You will conduct PIC development in Lithium niobate utilizing customary PIC design and simulation tools. The work will comprise photonic chip layout, cleanroom fabrication and chip characterization in the shared facilities of our academic partners. You will also interact and collaborate with our customers and partners.

Job requirements

  • A master’s degree MSc in Electrical Engineering, Physics or Applied Physics
  • Experience in developing photonic integrated circuits
  • A product-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work in team and in an international environment
  • Expertise in RF design is desirable
  • Skills in programming in Python is desirable
  • Experience with cleanroom fabrication is desirable
  • Commercial experience is desirable

Conditions of employment

We offer a purposeful job in a dynamic and ambitious startup company, with an inspiring group of colleagues in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work at the Sciencepark Amsterdam within walking distance of public transport. In addition, we offer you:

  • Full-time employment
  • Salary min. € 4.000 max. € 5.500
  • Annual vacation pay of 8%
  • An allowance for commuting, working from home.

About us

At Rapid Photonics, our mission is to revolutionize the development and production of Lithium niobate PICs. Our unique DEpicT® technology enables PIC developers to execute design iterations in a matter of weeks and at an affordable cost. Furthermore, our technology allows for volume production using conventional semiconductor processes. Rapid Photonics is a startup of the VU Amsterdam and has its office and production facility at the Science Park Amsterdam.
